Sleep in Rotterdam:
Mainport Hotel

Mainport hotel is a five-star hotel that sits nicely on the Maas River banks in the city centre of Rotterdam, where you can easily get a great view of the Erasmus bridge and experience a waterfront living. The hotel is a member of DesignHotels – where hotels are carefully curated based on something special – a vision, outstanding design and other qualities that make each hotel unique. With that, it can’t go wrong.

Mainport is largely known for its luxurious facilities, well-designed interiors and architecture. The interior draws an inspiration of east meets west, where each floor features a different continental theme ranging from African, Arctic to various European themes.

The City XL Room

Our room was located at the African-themed floor so the room decor included some tribal and animal prints, which was pretty interesting even though the room seemed kind of dim with their dark curtains and brown wallpapers. Although, the room’s setting is really intimate which is perfect for a romantic getaway! That being said, we weren’t discounted from light as natural lights were aplenty from the floor to ceiling windows. The City XL rooms are city facing, so you get a nice view of the city itself, which is definitely not as nice as the waterfront. However, the hotel’s atmosphere, setting and facilities do make up for the view.

By that, I mean you get a really comfortable king-sized bed and behold their spacious bathroom and its amenities. Yes, I’m a sucker for awesome bath products so it was delightful to see that the hotel stocks Mailin+Goetz products! On top of that, our bathroom came with a whirlpool bathtub (besides a walk-in shower zone) and Mirror TV! It was the first time I’d ever experienced a mirror TV so I believe my excitement can be excused.

I read that the higher tiered rooms even feature oversized round jacuzzis and private saunas. I’d definitely love to try those out! Also, the rooms at Mainport are all pretty spacious as compared to general European hotels (which could really be, well, tiny).

Hotel Facilities

The hotel facilities at Mainport are also huge plus points. They have a gym with a view overlooking the riverbanks and an indoor heated pool (Club H20) on the 8th floor, next to the Spa Haven. The Spa Haven, where hotel guests can experience a Finnish sauna, Turkish steam baths and other relaxing spa treatments that are available for both men & women.

All in all, it was a wonderful stay. While there seemed to be a flow of business-looking crowd, I believe this hotel is wonderful as a romantic getaway with your partner. I mean, I did find a 50 Shades of Grey love toy provided in the room (at an additional cost, of course).

While the hotel’s location is central and perfect for exploring the city, I think it could be really tempting to stay in and not leave at all considering how comfortable the hotel (the bed, the tub!) is, so remember to take note of that!
